How To Repurpose One Video Shoot Into 12+ Content Pieces
In sport, there’s no shortage of incredible moments.
But there is a shortage of time.
Most sports marketers are under pressure to grow awareness, keep key stakeholders happy, attract new sponsors, and build loyalty with athletes and fans.
And when it comes to video content, it’s easy to fall into the trap of “film it once, post it once.”
But I don’t abide by this approach. For me, a single event day can (and should) be transformed into dozens more powerful content pieces, without the need for additional shoots.
We’ve done exactly this at Fixon Media Group for our client, the Victorian Athletic League (VAL), creating over 350 pieces of short form content, and multiple long form pieces, from only 21 race meetings a season.
Today I’m showing you how.
What One VAL Race Day Can Become
Let’s break down the different assets we extract from just one single VAL race day.
1. Race Highlights Reels
Fast-cut edits of key races. They are perfect for social media, athlete promotion and getting fresh eyes on the sport.
2. Athlete Interviews
Short-form videos with athletes talking pre or post-race, which helps to build personality and emotional connection.
3. Emotion Driven Reels
We take the most powerful moments, victories, losses, comebacks, and create a reel that taps into the raw emotion of the day.
4. Full Raceday Review
This slightly longer duration video is produced occasionally during the season to review a race day. At the end of season awards night, we produce round-by-round reviews of each race day, in a similar style to what you see at the AFL Brownlow Medal.
5. Season Highlight Film
The same footage from race day can contribute to a bigger end-of-season video, tying together major moments across the year.
6. Sponsor Promo Videos
Select pieces of footage from the day can come together as part of a video curated to attract sponsors to the sport.
7. TV Commercial (TVC)
We condense the energy and emotion of the day into a 15-30s commercial spot, perfect for pre-event advertising or season promos.
8. Athlete Stories
Showcase a story beyond the race: a volunteer’s commitment, a family travelling to support an athlete, or the journey of an athlete to where they are today.
Stretching Into Other Mediums
Great content doesn’t stop with video. Use the assets you’ve captured at your sporting event to create written, graphic, and interactive content.
9. Social Graphics From Interview Quotes
Pull emotional or insightful quotes from interviews and turn them into text-on-image graphics for Instagram and Facebook.
10. Blog Or Newsletter Stories
Transcribe interviews and build athlete or community profiles to include in your event recaps, emails, or website content.
11. Carousel Posts
Design 5–10 slide carousels that showcase moments from the race day, results, or ‘5 Takeaways from this weekend’s meet.’
12. Event Recap Email For Fans Or Sponsors
Compile the best clips and stills into an email wrap-up for your community, athletes, or commercial partners.
13. Digital Sponsor Report Packs
Build a tailored deck with visuals, performance metrics, and audience reach summaries from the race day, a simple but powerful post-event deliverable for sponsors. We do this for the VAL after each season, so they have a strong prospectus to attract sponsors for the forthcoming season.
14. Leaderboard Graphics & Stat Drops
Overlay race results, rankings, or season stats onto branded templates and distribute across your platforms.
Final Thoughts
If you’re part of marketing a sporting competition or event, don’t leave content potential sitting on your hard drive.
Video marketing isn’t just about creating more, it’s also about creating economically (smarter).
With the right strategy and structure, a single event can deliver weeks, sometimes months, worth of content that builds brand loyalty, fan connection, and sponsor value.
