How St Macartan's Primary School Finally Got
A School Production Recording Worth Keeping
St Macartan’s Primary School in Mornington has a proud tradition of exceptional school productions. Every two years, students take to the stage at the Frankston Arts Centre for a full musical performance in front of a packed house of family and friends.
For years, the recordings of those productions fell short of what the performances deserved. Since 2022, Fixon Media Group has been there to change that.

THE CHALLENGE
A professional performance that deserved a professional recording.
School productions at the Frankston Arts Centre are serious events. Weeks of rehearsals, professional lighting, full costumes, and an audience of hundreds of proud parents and grandparents. The performance itself is every bit as polished as anything you would see on a ticketed stage.
The school wanted a recording that matched that standard. Something families would actually want to keep, and a memento the school could be proud of year after year.
THE sOLUTION
A recording that does the night justice.
We deployed a three-camera setup across the auditorium for both the 2022 production of Lion King Jr and the 2024 production of Moana Jr. A wide angle captured the full stage throughout the performance. A roaming camera moved with the action, covering scenes from different positions across the auditorium. A tight angle pulled in close for individual performer moments and detail that a fixed setup would miss entirely.
The difference maker was the audio. Rather than recording from the room, we captured a live feed directly from the sound desk, the same clean, balanced, professionally mixed audio that went through the house speakers on the night. The result was a recording that sounded exactly as good as it did in the venue.
After each production, the footage was edited into a complete film of the performance and delivered to a third party for bulk USB production. Hundreds of copies were produced for parents to purchase, a keepsake that matched the quality of the memory, while also helping the school recover some of the costs associated with staging a production of this scale.
Principal Colleen McGreal described the 2022 recording as the best the school had ever received.

Hundreds of families with a recording worth watching again.
The 2022 production of Lion King Jr resulted in approximately 300 USB copies sold to families. The 2024 production of Moana Jr followed with a similar response. Each year the school has a professional quality record of what their students achieved on stage, and the families who were there have something they will actually pull out and watch again years from now.
Fixon Media Group will return for the 2026 production, continuing what has become one of our favourite annual commitments.
